This is Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' first winter weather event and the new administration said they prepared for it.
Wednesday morning, the city sent messages out on social media urging drivers to remain off of the roads. In a press release Bottoms said, "we ask that the public use caution, and remain indoors and off the roadways as much as possible while the City works to treat and clear the roads."

The city also opened three warning shelters to give people a place to go in the very low temperatures.
"These facilities will remain open while temperatures are dangerously low, and all are welcome to seek shelter,” she said.
The city said they began treating bridges Tuesday evening and will continue "working around the clock until roads are clear."
Our @ATLPublicWorks crews will continue working around the clock. We have treated 103 Priority 1 & 2 bridges and 387 Priority 1 & 2 routes. Please stay off the road if you can. Report icy conditions & water main breaks to 404-546-0311.

They also said roads around hospitals, police stations and fire stations have been treated. Before the snow began, the Department of Public Works reportedly mobilized 11 salt spreaders to spread 104 tons of salt and applied 48,000 gallons of brine to the roadways.
Other major surface streets throughout the city are covered in thin ice that is blanketed in snow.
