Man kills himself after Tucker shooting, SWAT standoff

Police were initially called to the Tucker neighborhood shortly after midnight.

Gwinnett County Police said a man had shot and killed himself in woods near a home where a SWAT standoff took place for much of the overnight and early morning hours Saturday.

Master Police Officer Jacob Albright with the Gwinnett County Police Department says officers initially responded to a home in the 6400 block of Glenbrook Drive in Tucker shortly after midnight.

There, they found a woman, Crystal Bell, had been shot twice -- once in the arm and once in the chest. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but her condition is not presently known.

Once officers were able to determine where the shooting suspect was, a SWAT unit was summoned to help with his arrest.

The scene remained active through the overnight hours.

Shortly after 7 a.m., the suspect was seen running away from the area through several backyards, Albright said, toward Old Norcross-Tucker Road.

In a nearby wooded area, neighbors told police they saw the suspect.

According to Albright, as police approached the suspect, the suspect turned the gun on himself, and was reported dead on the scene.

The neighborhood was slowly beginning to return to normal as officers continued their investigation.
