Maddie Bowman fell three times in a row on the women's freestyle skiing halfpipe final on Monday, ending any chance for the American to add another gold medal to her collection.

Bowman, 24, fell during training before the event. She cracked her helmet and injured her left wrist, according to NBC. She had her wrist tapped before the final.

But no matter what she did, she couldn't land her final trick: a right-side 900. It's an extremely difficult trick, and on her last attempt she came down too low and hit the snow hard.

The top layer of her helmet popped off as well as one of her skis. She laid on the snow for several seconds before finally getting up.

As she skied off, she closed her eyes tight, attempting to keep the tears from falling.

Bowman was the defending gold medal winner, winning the halfpipe in Sochi. She went into the final round after finishing sixth in qualifying.

She still received plenty of support on social media after her fall.
