The Russian curler who tested positive for meldonium in PyeongChang and his partner will give back their bronze medals, according to a Russian state TV.
Alexander Krushelnitsky and his wife, Anastasia Bryzgalova, won the bronze medal by defeating Norway in the mixed doubles curling competition earlier in the Winter Games.
Russian Curling Federation spokesperson Valentina Parinova told the Russian TV station that it signed a statement that Krushelnitsky had meldonium in the sample "and as a result we will give the medal back."
Reuters is reporting that Krushelnitsky has also dropped his appeal. The Court of Arbitration of Sport was scheduled to hear the curler's case regarding the doping allegation later in the week.
Meldonium is believed to increase blood flow in the body and increase stamina. It is also used in eastern Europe to treat certain heart conditions.
While there has been no formal announcement, the bronze medal may go to the fourth place finisher, which was Norway.
The Norwegians, Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien, have already said they want the Winter Games organizers to hold a new medals ceremony before the Games end on Sunday, according to The Guardian.
