McIver's voice heard for the first time in his murder trial | Recapping Day 7

The prosecution's star witness also showed jurors how Tex McIver was holding the gun just moments after he shot his wife.

ATLANTA - Tex McIver’s voice was heard for the first time on Wednesday, which was day 7 in his high-profile murder trial.

McIver is accused of intentionally killing his wife, Diane McIver, on Sept. 25, 2016. Diane McIver died after being shot in the back with a handgun while in the passenger's seat of an SUV. Tex was riding behind her and had a loaded revolver in his lap.According to Tex, the revolver fired on its own and claims that the shooting was "a horrible accident."

A voicemail was played in court on Wednesday of McIver leaving a message for Tom Carter, husband of Dani Jo Carter, who was driving the SUV when McIver shot his wife, Diane, resulting in injuries that would ultimately lead to her death:

“Tommy Lee, this is Tex. Let me be plain, Dani is about to send me to prison. Please erase this voicemail message but call me right away. Y'all have no idea the problem this is causing. It's innocent, but it's absolutely nuclear to me. Please, please call me.”

Dani Jo Carter is the prosecution’s star witness in the case. Carter also testified on Wednesday she saw Tex McIver shove his wife at the couple’s Putnam County ranch.

Carter told the jury the couple were fighting over their godson when he shoved her out of their shared bedroom in the middle of the night.

One of the day’s most dramatic moments was when Dani Jo Carter held the gun in the same way she observed McIver holding the weapon, moments after he shot his wife.

After his wife’s death, Tex McIver left numerous messages for Tom Carter after Dani Jo hired an attorney to protect her from the media. Tom Carter said he and his wife just wanted to be left alone.

Consumer investigative reporter Dale Cardwell also testified Wednesday, telling jurors the McIvers made him uncomfortable at times because Diane McIver was so dominant in their relationship.
