Nearly every house in the Chestnut Ridge subdivision in South Fulton is a virtual construction site.

An EF-2 tornado destroyed or heavily damaged almost every house on Monday night. Residents like Alicia Lowery, who have to move out, decided to get additional security while they leave their houses vacant.

“They’re gonna get it boarded up,” Lowery said.

Fulton County also ordered increased police presence in the neighborhood.

“Hopefully, no one is going to be taken advantage of by the bad people that come in,” said Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts. “We’re also going to have additional security so that worldly possessions, those that are still here, are secure.”

The Better Business Bureau warned of so-called “storm chasers” earlier this week, scam artists and shady contractors who look to make a quick buck off tornado victims.

“You’ll have people that’ll come in here with a pickup truck and a magnetic sign. They’ll say ‘I’ll do it, but you need to give me an advance so I can go get some lumber,’ and you’ll never see them again,” warned Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens.
