Police: Man side-swipes police cruiser, flees after officer-involved shooting

VILLA RICA, Ga. — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation by the GBI according to a tweet posted Thursday morning.

According to the chief with the Villa Rica Police Department, officers were called to a convenience store on the 1600 block of Bankhead Highway for a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they met with the subject, 30-year-old Daniel Daigle, who was allegedly causing the disturbance and began to question him.

However, before they were able to finish questioning him, Daigle reportedly got into his car and began to flee the store parking lot.

He then struck the air pump and a pole and nearly hit a Villa Rica Police Officer. Another officer decided to fire a shot at the subject, who then side-swiped a police cruiser as he fled. No police officers were hurt.

A few hours later, police found Daigle's car, about five minutes from the initial scene. After using K-9 officers to search the area, they found the 30-year-old inside a home off Jennifer Lane. Daigle was arrested without incident.

During the arrest, they discovered that Daigle, who had warrants out for possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation, had been shot in his right forearm and left leg. Officials took him to the hospital where he was treated.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. Once the case is complete, it will be handed over to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
