ATLANTA — For thousands of dollars, you can own your own piece of Atlanta history - at least, we think.

A seller on eBay is claiming to have the original Clermont Hotel sign, offering the vintage item for auction. The highest bid, so far, exceeds $3,000.

The sign first posted on Craigslist earlier this week indicates the double-sided sign for sale is from the “legendary Clermont hotel," dating back to the hotel’s former name, the Clermont Motor Hotel.

According to the eBay post:

“This is a rare opportunity to own an iconic piece of Atlanta history. This is the 9 foot long double sided electric box sign from the legendary Clermont Hotel on Ponce De Leon street in downtown Atlanta. It's not the entire sign, it's just the green box sign. You can see in the last photo how it was displayed on the pole in front of the hotel."

The 1920’s hotel in the Poncey-Highlands neighborhood resides above the iconic Clermont Lounge, a 53-year-old strip club, which re-opened in Sept. 2017.

Now re-named Hotel Clermont and under Oliver Hospitality management, the renovated boutique hotel is anticipated to re-open this spring. The hotel is currently taking reservations for May 2018, according to its website.

The original CraigsList price was $400 but when the seller had more than 120 interested in purchasing, he opted to auction the sign off on eBay.

According to the seller’s post, bids will be accepted until May 3. 11Alive News reached out to the seller for comment.
