Police investigating after pre-school staff find gun in student's backpack

The Center for Early Education at the First Baptist Church in Marietta contacted police about the incident after the gun was found.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Police are investigating after a gun was found inside a pre-school student's book bag, Wednesday.

According to the Marietta Police Department, the Center for Early Education at the First Baptist Church in Marietta contacted police about the incident.

When officers got there, school leaders had already secured the gun.

Police said no one was injured, and all indications were that the child was unaware the gun was inside their school backpack.

Marietta Police said they are investigating the incident along with the Department of Family and Child Services. At this time, there are no charges pending. However, police said if they determine charges to be "appropriate," they will be sought.

No other information, including the child's information, was available and police said they will not be commenting further at this time.
