ATLANTA - Police say a suspicious package first reported at the Central Presbyterian Church directly across the street from the Georgia State Capitol was actually a weather balloon.
Atlanta police spokesperson Donald Hannah first confirmed the suspicious package at 201 Washington Ave. around noon Monday. At that point, authorities were blocking access to the area and not allowing traffic through.
However, authorities were able to confirm that the package was actually a weather balloon a short time later according to another police spokesperson, Lisa Bender.
No evacuations were ordered as a result of the scare since police didn't deem the balloon a hazard.
