Funeral service held for teen killed in South Fulton shooting

The sixteen-year-old was killed in late May.

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. -- Family and friends are saying one final goodbye, Wednesday, to a teen shot and killed inside a South Fulton home in late May.

Sixteen-year-old Grant Antonio Payton was one of three teens shot in the 2900 block of Two Lakes Circle during the early morning hours of May 29. Both he and 19-year-old Tyree Johnson died in the shooting.

Witnesses said Payton was shot by a stray bullet that went through the home. Johnson was found dead inside a car parked outside.

11Alive spoke with Payton's mother, Donese Gordon who said her son was excited because he had just gotten a job at a Chick-fil-A - an excitement immortalized in a photo.

It was that photo of her son smiling that now adorns an online flyer announcing his funeral plans. Sadly, his is one of several teen deaths from gun violence in roughly a month's time with others reported in Atlanta as well as Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.

Payton's visitation was held on Tuesday at Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Seed Planters Community Church at 262 Johnson Road in Forest Park, Georgia.
