Officer injured by bullet fragment at scene of DeKalb County SWAT situation

The officer was treated at the scene.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released more details about the officer-involved shooting that happened in Stone Mountain.

11Alive has learned that an officer was injured from a bullet fragment at the scene. This is one of the three officer-involved shootings that GBI is investigating in the metro area that happened Tuesday.

GBI said DeKalb County Police responded to a potential home invasion at The Reserve at Stone Creek apartment complex on South Hairston Road off Treehills Parkway around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

They were looking for 20-year-old Jonathan Buckley.

Police located him and one of the officers fired at Buckley, GBI said. Buckley ran from police and SWAT was the called to assist with the search. After an exhaustive search, they finally located him hiding inside of an apartment. GBI said DeKalb Police tried to negotiate with Buckley, but he would not surrender.

They used tear gas and he finally came out, but Buckley allegedly confronted officers with a firearm. The police discharged their weapons and the suspect was injured. He died at the hospital.

GBI will continue its independent investigation; It will be turned over to the district attorney's office for review once it is complete.
