'They're dangerous felons.' | Teens allegedly burglarize cars, lead police on hi-speed chase

Police pulled up to the scene with flashing lights. Police said the suspects jumped into two cars and took off.

CONYERS, Ga. -- The search is on for a group of teenagers who led police on a hi-speed chase Wednesday.

Conyers Police said some of the crime was caught on camera.

About eight teenagers were fueling up with gas and refreshments when they stopped at a Texaco near Sigman Road and Old Covington Highway. They allegedly burglarized 18 cars. When a woman heard the commotion, she called 911.

Police said the victim confronted the teens.

"When they saw her, they pointed a weapon at her," Conyers Police Cpt. J. Dunn said.

Right when that happened, police pulled up to the scene with flashing lights. Police said the suspects jumped into two cars and took off.

Within in minutes, one of the suspect vehicles crashed. In the video, you can see a bunch of teens getting out of the wrecked car and jumping into another vehicle.

The officer slammed into the back of the vehicle, conducting a classic PIT maneuver. However, the driver regained control and went down the wrong side of the street on Sigman Road. As they get back on the right side of the road, they took I-20.

You can hear the officer on the police radio say, "they're starting to run people off the roadway."

When the chase got too dangerous, the police backed off the pursuit. They said all eight teens escaped.

"They may be 14, 15 years old, but they're dangerous felons," Dunn said.

Police said the teens left some items behind.

"(An) AK-47. Pistol built instead of a shoulder stock," Dunn said.

Anyone with information that can help authorities is asked to contact police.
