Co-worker of missing pharmacy tech gives tearful plea at candlelight prayer vigil

"I just hate that this happened to him," Bennett said in tears. " Because he was a really nice person and I don't understand who would do this."

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A group gathered Friday evening at a church to pray for a pharmacy tech who went missing earlier this week.

The candlelight prayer vigil was held at Trinity Grace Church in Loganville.

Many of Alvin Ahmed's friends and co-workers were there.

The 25-year-old disappeared on July 16. The last time anyone saw him was that night as he was exiting the Publix in Loganville Town Center, where he works.

Surveillance video from the store shows him purchasing groceries and walking out of the door. Police said his car was found in the parking lot with the glove compartment open. He never made it home.

Friday, Crystal Bennett gave a tearful description of her co-worker.

"He is very caring and he was one of the first people to be nice to me whenever I started working at Publix," she said. "I didn't know anybody. He used to always make me laugh."

She and others who attended are heartbroken over his disappearance.

"I just hate that this happened to him," Bennett said in tears. "Because he was a really nice person and I don't understand who would do this."

"I absolutely hate this. I hate that we don't know where he is. I hate that he could be gone, I hate that he could still be missing. I pray for his family. I hope, I pray that he could still come home."

Authorities found a body in Lake Carton, nearly three miles away from the Publix. They are still trying to determine the identity of the body.

A person passing by spotted something floating in the water and called the police.

"It was completely based off her phone call that we were able to come out and discover this at all. So, it does speak to the importance of when you see something suspicious, call the police," Sgt. Jake Smith with the Gwinnett County Police Department said.
