COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two accidents involving overturned tractor trailers are crippling traffic along major interstate routes in Cobb County - all as rush hour traffic hits its peak.
One of those accidents happened near the intersection of Six Flags Parkway. Backups already stretch back on I-20 all the way past Hamilton E. Homes nearing the Anderson Avenue exit. Cleanup is being further complicated by a fuel leak. It's unclear if there are any injuries. As of 4:50 p.m., all lanes were still blocked.
Another overturned tractor-trailer was also reported further north on eastbound I-285, just to the east of I-75 in the Smyrna-Vinings area. That accident also involves a pickup truck and authorities on the scene report significant damage to the roadway. Georgia Department of Transportation estimates suggest the roads won't reopen until 7:15 p.m.
11Alive is monitoring both accidents and will provide updates as they become available. Check 11Alive.com/traffic for details on alternate routes.
