'GoFundMe' campaign started after deadly apartment fire in East Point

The Red Cross is helping; however, the owner of the apartments, Mollie Simmons Mayfield, says it’s real struggle for the families.

Investigators continue searching for clues in a fatal apartment fire earlier this week.

Everyone who lived in the building is still unable to return. The fire did tremendous damage at the apartments on Vesta Avenue late Tuesday night.

Six tenants who were inside escaped but one did not. Authorities have not revealed the name of that person at this time.

The Red Cross is helping but the owner of the apartments, Mollie Simmons Mayfield, said it’s a real struggle for the families.

In addition to refunding December rent for residents affected by the fire, she's helping with a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign.

“Everybody's going to have to move for a period of time," Mayfield said. "Whether that's a month or three months - that's a lot to ask to let you stay temporary someplace. So, we're raising money to give people the opportunity to put deposits and pay rent somewhere.”

You can find the GoFundMe account here.
