I-85 in Coweta County is back open after it was shut down in both directions after a police chase. Law enforcement officers were looking for a suspect.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the police activity was near milepost 56 at Collinsworth Road.

Newnan Police were called to the One Life Fitness on Newnan Crossing Bypass for an entering auto call. The victim on the scene tracked his stolen iPad to the Lowe's parking lot on Bullsboro Drive.

When officers arrived, they saw a white Jaguar speeding. They tried to conduct a traffic stop, but Newnan Police said the driver kept going. Officers said the vehicle went down I-85 going nearly 100 miles per hour.

Coweta County deputies used a tire-deflating device to spike the tires of the car, according to Newnan Police.  The vehicle hit a guardrail near mile marker 54.

The two people got out of the car with pistols and took off running, police said. A Newnan officer tased one of the suspects and took the person into custody.

The other person managed to cross eight lanes of traffic and a barrier wall. The suspect held up a firearm up as if to shoot, so two Coweta County Deputies fired their pistols, according to Newnan Police.

After close to an hour and a half of searching, the suspect was found hiding under a woodpile, Newnan authorities said.

Police believe both suspects are juveniles.

Suspects were not struck by any bullets and no officers were injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was consulted, but at this time has no direct involvement in the investigation, according to Newnan Police.
