Police chase ends in crash, suspect runs away

The suspect ran away from the scene.

A high-speed police chase ended in a crash early Monday morning. The suspect ran away from the scene.

According to Cobb County authorities, the collision happened between a Holly Springs patrol car and the suspect's vehicle on southbound Interstate 75 just south of the Barrett Parkway exit. At the end of the pursuit, the van and police car struck the median wall resulting in the van catching fire.

The Holly Springs Police Department said the pursuit started from a simple traffic violation. Officials said the Ford Econoline van had government license tags that were registered to a trailer in Gwinnett County. Officials believed the van had stolen items from a recent theft.

Cobb County police confirmed the Holly Springs officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. He has since been released.  Woodstock and Cobb County officers assisted  Holly Springs police officers in the search.
