GDOT treats roads before temperatures dip near freezing overnight

GDOT sent trucks into metro Atlanta Monday evening.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is working to keep roads safe as temperatures are expected to drop overnight.

GDOT sent trucks into metro Atlanta Monday to put brine on some of the major interstates and roads.

Brine is a solution used to treat roads and highways.Icy spots and black ice are possible early Tuesday. Although widespread icing isn't expected, it's possible for some areas.

LIST | Delays and school closings

"We have all these tankers running around, around the Perimeter, 75, 85, up Georgia 400, on I-20, so we are running those routes to make sure we hit areas where black Ice could form," a GDOT spokesperson said. "We can't depend on just focusing on those areas where there might be black ice. So we will treat the whole road and we will have spotters out in the morning looking for these areas."
