Atlanta Falcons pull out all the stops in crushing win over Cardinals

The eminently balanced Falcons cleared 200-plus yards with rushing and passing versus Arizona.

In NFL circles, it's known as a Get-Right game.

And make no mistake, the Atlanta Falcons momentarily righted the ship against an overmatched opponent.

On Sunday afternoon, the Falcons didn't bear the look of a forlorn franchise mired in a five-game losing slide. The club shrugged off a sluggish start and subsequently rolled to a 40-14 blowout of the Cardinals.

The list of Sunday heroes runs pretty deep for Atlanta:

**Tailback Tevin Coleman amassed 145 yards and one touchdown on just 11 carries; and this doesn't even include a 50-plus-yard TD that had been nullified by an offensive penalty.

CLEMONS: Vic Beasley, Deion Jones team up for cool pick-six

**Quarterback Matt Ryan was coolly efficient against the Cardinals, passing for 231 yards and accounting for three touchdowns (including a 1-yard plunge to claim the lead.)

**Julio Jones left the game early in the third quarter with an apparent rib injury (believed to be not serious) ... but still managed to rack up six catches for 82 yards and one touchdown.

**The Falcons defense was amazing on this day, thrilling the red-clad audience at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with seven sacks, nine tackles for loss and nine quarterback hits.

For good measure, the defense forced three turnovers (highlighted by Deion Jones' pick-six) and held the Arizona offense to merely 217 total yards.

By contrast, the Falcons offense cleared the 200-yard mark for both rushing and passing, capitalizing on the ebb-and-flow greatness of Coleman, Ryan and Jones.

With the victory, Atlanta (5-9) still has faint hopes of reaching the playoffs ... but it would require many small miracles for this to occur.

But none of that matters right now. The Falcons were happy just to close out the home portion of the regular-season schedule on a prolific high note.
