Federal workers may get a break on their Atlanta water bill

The city council passed a resolution directing Atlanta Watershed to come up with a way to defer bills for sidelined federal workers.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council on Tuesday took steps toward helping those affected by the federal government shutdown.

Members passed a resolution instructing the city's Department of Watershed Management to come up with a way to defer payment of water and sewer bills by customers who are federal workers affected by the shutdown, which has entered its 33rd day.

The resolution was passed by a unanimous vote of the council.
A second resolution was passed urging President Donald Trump and members of Congress to reopen the government, which has sidelined more than 800,000 workers since Dec. 22.
