Lowe's adding 50,000 positions at annual hiring event

The home improvement chain's 2019 National Hiring Day is on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Lowe's says they plan to add more than 50,000 store associates at their second annual National Hiring Day on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The North Carolina-based chain says the busiest season for home improvement projects is fast approaching and they are ramping up their store staffs at locations across the nation to meet the demand.

They are planning to hire more than 50,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal associates over all 1,700 of their stores. In the metro Atlanta area, Lowe's expects to hire for about 750 open positions.

Job candidates may apply in person at any Lowe's store from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet with hiring managers, speak with associates and some candidates may receive on-the-spot job offers.

“Lowe’s is a great fit for individuals who thrive on serving customers and want the benefits of working with one of the largest retailers in the country while being in a close-knit team environment, said Jennifer Weber, Lowe’s executive vice president, human resources. “Our National Hiring Day approach has proven to be a successful path for many to transition into careers with Lowe’s."

After their hiring day event in 2017, about 40 percent of their seasonal associates were able to transition into permanent part-time and full-time positions with the company, Weber said.

In-store seasonal positions, which usually support the stores between February and September, include cashiers, lawn and garden associates, stockers and loaders. Seasonal associates with Lowe's benefit from competitive pay and a 10 percent employee discount.

Part-time and full-time positions are also available in stores and include department supervisor positions, customer service associates, cashiers, stockers and sales specialists. Part and full-time associates can take advantage of Lowe's health and wellness benefits with eligibility after 30 days of continuous service, incentive programs, 401(k), a discounted stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement and paid volunteer time.

Lowe’s also offers Track to the Trades, a company-funded certification program to help part-time and full-time associates pursue careers in the skilled trades, such as plumbing, electrical or HVAC.

Full-time associates are eligible for two weeks paid parental leave and 10 weeks maternity leave for childbirth.
