Severe weather updates: Rain remains, but threat diminishing

Here are live updates as we track the storm system.

The "bomb cyclone" tearing through the Midwest indirectly impacted Georgia Thursday night and Friday morning.

2:45 a.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for areas including Calhoun, Adairsville and Shannon until 3:00 a.m.

2:20 a.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Bartow, Floyd and Gordon Counties until 3:00 a.m.

1:40 a.m. - The severe thunderstorm warning for Coweta, Fayette, Meriwether, Spalding, Troup has expired.

1:16 a.m. - A new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Coweta, Fayette, Heard, Meriwether, Spalding and Troup counties until 1:45 a.m.

12:40 a.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup counties until 1:15 a.m.

12:25 a.m. - Chief Meteorologist Chris Holcomb says the rain and storms will be moving out by mid-Friday, bringing in some cooler air after. 

11:05 p.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Carroll and Heard counties until 11:45 p.m.

The storm has the potential to produce 70 mph wind gusts that could cause tree damage and damage to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings. The storm is moving northeast at 30 mph.

RADAR: Track the storms

10:44 p.m. - A tornado WARNING has been issued for Randolph County, Alabama, just over the Georgia state line, until 11:30 p.m.

9:55 p.m. - Georgia Power is reporting there are 32 active outages with 2,906 customers affected. There are about 760 outages being reported by Georgia EMC.

9:07 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning updated for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, and Paulding counties to point toward the possibility of tornados, 60 mph wind and up to 1-inch hail. The warning remains until 9:30 p.m. but cancels Polk County.

9:05 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning canceled for Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties.

8:55 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bartow, Cherokee and Gordon counties continued until 9:15 p.m.

8:52 p.m. - A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties until 9:30 p.m.

8:38 p.m. - A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Bartow, Cherokee and Gordon counties until 9:15 p.m.

The storm is about 10 miles northwest of Cartersville, moving east at 30 mph. Hazards associated with the storm include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. 

8:31 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm warning for Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties until 9:15 p.m.

8:28 p.m. - Tornado warning CANCELLED for Floyd and Polk Counties.

8:10 p.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning issued for Haralson and Polk Counties until 9 p.m.

8:03 p.m. - Tornado WARNING issued for Floyd and Polk counties until 8:45 p.m.

7:40 p.m. - The following counties in north central Georgia are now under a Tornado WATCH until 1 a.m.: Bartow, Carroll, Floyd, Haralson, Paulding, Polk and Heard. 

The tornado WATCH is also in also in effect for Randolph and Cleburn County, Alabama until 12 a.m.

7:30 p.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Floyd and Polk counties until 8:15 p.m.

6:40 p.m. - Chief Meteorologist Chris Holcomb is hosting a special Facebook live to discuss the threat of severe weather late Thursday night. A tornado watch in Alabama has been extended right up to the Georgia state line.
