Details about how the argument led to the charges for both are unclear.

The report said deputies were called to the Salem Road area on Feb. 6. The complainant told authorities she and the man involved were arguing over who got to the gas pump first.

Hughes' booking sheet shows he was charged with stalking, a misdemeanor. It also listed Newton County Schools as his last known employer. 11Alive reached out to school officials, who confirmed he is an assistant principal at South Salem Elementary School.

A spokesperson for the school system said he reported his arrest to them. School officials also said they said they are monitoring the proceedings as the case continues.

Here is the full statement:

We are aware of Mr. Hughes’ arrest as he self-reported the situation upon his return to work. This was not a work-related situation as the incident happened outside of the school day and off campus. We will monitor the proceedings as the case works its way through the court system.

As for Kennebrew, she was arrested on April 6 and was charged with simple battery.

Other details about this case have not been released.
