Elderly couple found dead inside their Winder home

The GBI has been asked to help investigate the deaths.

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — Two elderly people were found dead inside a Winder, Georgia home on Monday, investigators said.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, the couple were found dead in the Southridge Road residence.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said the coroner was at the scene, and they have requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to help work the case.

Authorities have also requested a search warrant to enter the home, but because the investigation is still in its early stages, investigators are still trying to determine if there was foul play.

11Alive's Hope Ford spoke to one neighbor who's lived next door to the couple for 14 years. The neighbor, who wished to be go only by Ashley, told 11Alive that the couple was in their late 70s. He said police knocked on his door around 11:30 a.m. to ask if he knew what happened.

“He knocked on the door and asked me if I heard any commotion," he recalled. "I said, 'no.' I asked what happened. He said a couple over there - somebody go over there and kill them.”

Ashley said he and the couple were good friends, and the elderly man always went out of his way to think of his family.

"They would sometimes take us out for dinner or out to the movies. He would always check up on me," he recalled.

Ashley said the last time he was sick, the elderly man paid the emergency bill for him.

“If I have a need I can go to him," he said.

Ashley said the last time he saw his neighbor was about two weeks ago, when he came back from the gym. He said the news of the couple's death has left him feeling heavy inside.

“He was my good friend. My good friend."

Authorities have still not released the names of the couple.
