Two taken to hospital in five-car I-85 wreck

The early morning caused significant traffic delays.

At least two people were injured and taken to Grady Hospital on Tuesday morning after a five-car wreck on I-85 northbound.

The early morning wreck caused major delays during the morning commute.

The Georgia State Patrol later said the incident was caused by one crash, between a Mercedes and Jeep Grand Cherokee, and then a second crash, in which a Toyota Corolla struck the stopped Mercedes.

That second crash pushed the Mercedes into the path of a tractor-trailer, and the Toyota lost control and went into the path of a GMC Sierra.

The drivers of the Mercedes and Toyota sustained non-life-threatening injuries, GSP said.

Authorities said there are charges pending against those two individuals.

There were four to five miles of backup to Union City as cars crawled through a single open left lane following the wreck.
