Several dogs who escaped Tropical Storm Barry to Atlanta ready for adoption

The dogs arrived to the Atlanta Humane Society on Friday. They will become available for adoption tomorrow when the West Midtown location off Howell Mill Road.

ATLANTA — A total of 19 dogs who arrived from Louisiana ahead of Tropical Storm Barry will be ready for adoption on Tuesday.

The dogs arrived at the Atlanta Humane Society on Friday. They will become available for adoption on Tuesday when the West Midtown location off Howell Mill Road at opens at 12 p.m.

As New Orleans and the coast prepared for Tropical Storm Barry, shelters in the area were looking to move animals out of their facilities.

During hurricane season, adoptable animals are relocated from shelter facilities in the path of the storm for two reasons: in case of flooding in the area and to open up space in the facility for the rush of stray or lost animals after the storm.

Animals who are moved to other shelters prior to and after hurricanes are animals who were already up for adoption, according to the humane society.
