ATHENS, Ga. — Athens-Clarke Police need help finding a man wanted in connection to an armed robbery that reportedly happened near a college campus.
On Monday, police posted a sketch of the suspect on its Facebook page, along with a description.
Officers said the crime happened after noon on Oct. 10 on South Pope Street. This is not far from student housing at the University of Georgia, however, it is considered off-campus.
The 21-year-old victim told police the suspect might have tattoos on his neck and forehead. He appeared to be in his 20s, has a slim build, and was about 6'1" tall.
After the crime was reported, police said they conducted an extensive search of the area but did not locate the suspect.
This wasn't the only robbery law enforcement is investigating in Athens.
Just before midnight on that day, the University of Georgia Police Department said they responded to a similar call for a separate crime in the lower Russell Hall parking lot off Cloverhurst Avenue.
According to an alert sent to students, the victim said he was approached by two black men who asked to borrow his phone. They immediately told him to get on the ground. He told police that both men were armed with handguns and that they took "several items" from him.
