Crisis call escalates to SWAT standoff in Milton

Police didn't mention any charges in relation to the SWAT response, though, the man will face a charge for something that happened before they arrived.

MILTON, Ga. — Police said what began as a welfare check on a person "believed to be in crisis" has ended with an arrest following the arrival of SWAT officers and a two-and-a-half-hour standoff.

Milton Police said that around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, they were sent to Watson's Bend for the check.

"Based on information provided to dispatchers by relatives of the individual, responding officers believed that the person at the residence was in need of assistance," the department said in a media statement.

However, despite attempts by both officers and relatives to get the person to leave the home, they were unsuccessful.

"Because of this impasse, officers requested the assistance of the North Fulton SWAT team negotiators," the statement said." After further attempts at communication were unsuccessful, other components of the North Fulton SWAT team were deployed."

It took over two hours for the tense situation to be resolved, though it happened peacefully when the man, later identified as George R. Moore surrendered to SWAT officers.

Moore was ultimately charged with reckless conduct and simple assault - family violence and arrested following further investigations suggested he fired a gun inside the home before police arrived. He has since been taken to the Fulton County Jail.
