ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating a shooting in an area often filled with people on weekend nights.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Edgewood Avenue around 8:20 p.m. to reports of a shooting. They arrived to find a man shot in the leg who they said was "alert, conscious and breathing."

Police stressed the shooting didn't happen inside or in front of any businesses at the location. A spokesperson for the department added the person for the shooting remained at the scene and was being interviewed by detectives.

Further investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a fight over payment for cell phone repairs. During the dispute, the suspect refused to return the victim's money and pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim. However, the victim was also armed and shot the suspect in the upper leg.

The armed suspect, who ended up being shot, was taken to Atlanta Grady Detention Center. Police have since recovered his weapon. The victim who opened fire is being interviewed by detectives and is cooperating, police said.

The incident occurred in the Sweet Auburn area of Edgewood Avenue which includes several bars and restaurants.
