Alpharetta police charge suspect in kidnapping

Police said a man managed to escape after he was kidnapped from the parking lot of his apartment complex.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Alpharetta Police said they have charged a man in connection with a kidnapping case from earlier this week.

According to Sgt. Howard Miller, investigators took a report from a man who said he had been kidnapped at gunpoint from the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lives on Old Roswell Road.

He told officers he was forced into a vehicle, told he would be killed, then driven to another residence on Old Roswell Road. While the kidnappers were taking him out of the vehicle, Miller said the victim was able to break free, run away and call police.

Detectives from the Alpharetta Police Major Case Squad were able to identify a suspect in less than 24 hours, Miller said. He named Jorge Moreno-Arroyo of Roswell, as that suspect.

In addition, detectives were able to determine that Moreno-Arroyo had an active arrest warrant for an aggravated assault from Roswell on an unrelated case.

Officers were able to locate Moreno-Arroyo and take him into custody on the Roswell warrant while detectives continued their investigation into the kidnapping.

After a search warrant was obtained, detectives said they were able to discover evidence linking him to the kidnapping. On Friday morning, detectives obtained additional arrest warrants for false imprisonment and aggravated assault against Moreno-Arroyo -- who remains in the Fulton County Jail without bail.

In addition, police said, Moreno-Arroyo has been placed on an ICE hold.

Investigators said the victim and Moreno-Arroyo were known to each other. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, they weren't able to provide any additional comments regarding the case. Additional criminal charges are likely in the case.
